Murals are simply paintings on a much grander scale. It's the 2 dimensional expression of a monumental sculpture. Everything has to be measured out by percentage of scale.

It starts with a preliminary sketch. Once determined, it is then scaled up to the size of the mural and then painted, often times this is done from a scaffold.
